Wading the Surf

We had a phenomenal day wading the surf on Mustang Island this morning. Not many big fish, but plenty of fish to go around. Rough estimate of about 150 speckled trout between six of us and many other species to keep things interesting. We all had bites nearly every cast and nearly everyone caught at least a limit of keeper trout. For the first hour and a half of light we waded about thigh-deep casting topwaters (skitterwalks and spooks) and jerkbaits (rapala x-raps) around schools of bait. From then on we waded about waist-deep and the bite was strictly on plastics (TTF Flats Minnows in liquid shrimp and TTF Hackberry Hustlers in opening night and morning glory) worked fast deep in the water column on the bottom.
